Boxing Day – Xmas shopping in London

Was ist der Boxing Day?

Die wortwörtliche Bedeutung von „Boxing Day“ ist „Geschenkschachtel-Tag“. An jenem Tag erhielten seit jeher die Angestellten von ihren Arbeitgebern Weihnachtsgeschenke („Christmas Box“). Die Beschenkung der Arbeitgeber fand traditionell am 26. Dezember statt, also am Tag nach Weihnachten. Denn in Großbritannien wird Weihnachten am 25. Dezember zelebriert.

Denn am Boxing Day kannst du extrem viele Schnäppchen schießen, vor allem was Klamotten-Shopping angeht.

Je früher man dort ankommt, desto besser.

Tag 4 – The breakfast Club

Wer also richtig tolle Lederschuhe sucht wird hier sicher fündig.

———————————————————————-

Again this year it was time and I flew to London for Boxing Day. Why? Of course, for shopping:) But is it really worth it? What are the offers? And what exactly is Boxing Day? First of all, a few facts:

What is Boxing Day?
The literal meaning of “Boxing Day ” is “gift box tag .” On that day, employees have always received Christmas gifts from their employers ( “Christmas Box “). Employers traditionally received the same time on 26 December, the day after Christmas. Because in the UK, Christmas is celebrated on December 25. If Boxing Day falls on a Saturday or Sunday, then Boxing Day will take place on the following business day.
Where is Boxing Day celebrated?

Boxing Day is mostly celebrated in the UK. But Boxing Day is also being celebrated in the Commonwealth of Nations with countries such as South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Canada or Uganda.
Boxing Day is interesting for anyone going to London for winter shopping. Because on Boxing Day you can shoot an extremely many bargains, especially when it comes to clothes shopping. The well-known chains as well as smaller shops in London blow out extremely reduced items and special offers on Boxing Day, which is why a shopping trip to London on Boxing Day is particularly worthwhile. You should get up early, though, because it will definitely be full on Boxing Day in the shops, and the best deals usually go early in the morning over the shop counter.

But if you happen to be in London for Boxing Day and don’t feel like shopping and commerce at all, then there are plenty of other activities you can do on the second Christmas holiday. There are even special “Boxing Day walks ” in London, guided hikes and walks.
But now for my trip to London. I planned 4 days (3 nights one). Complete enough would also be 2 days if you want to come exclusively to shop. But since I had planned some tourist activities, I booked a few more days. My mum and I stayed from 27.12 to 30.12.18.

Day 1-Oxford Street and Soho

On our first day, we arrived very early in London, we drove directly to our hotel (this time booked the Rathbone Hotel) in the immediate vicinity of the shopping street “Oxford Street .” I always recommend you book a hotel walk close to Oxford Street because that saves you a lot of time and since you usually have a lot to tow and still has the hour-long carry and commute out to the accommodation. So we moved through some stores like GAP, Warehouse, Top Shop and Anthropologie and the deals were really very good. I bought some items of clothing and accessories straight away. Despite the fact that we were very early on Oxford Street, it was already very crowded and you could barely walk straight. The shops were incredibly crowded and you had to fight your way through some of them in a real way in order to get to the things. On the first day we were full of energy and anticipation and we knew what we were getting into, so it didn’t make us so much and we just let ourselves drift through the shops.

For the afternoon we got hungry and I had already inquired about some restaurants before the trip. So since we’ve never been to Soho before, I beat the Flat Iron
Before. There are delicious juicy steaks here, not very big, but enough to get full. The restaurant is small and quiet and you have to bring some time, because you can’t make a reservation and there is a walk-in only policy. We were in a queue but it went pretty fast and after about 20min we were in it. You sit at long wooden tables on small round wooden boards, not really comfortable but not really bad either. You could choose between already cut steak or steak as a whole. As a side dish you could choose between creamy spinach, salad or fries. When you sit down you get a jug of water served and a bowl of salty popcorn. You can also choose the sauce to the steak. We opted for pepper sauce. The food came quickly and the steak was very tender and juicy. Absolutely recommended if you don’t want to sit for hours and look for a delicious meal in between. Good service, fast and not too expensive.

Day 2-Harrods and the Pink Sin

The next day we decided to drive to the Harrods department store. The department store is beautiful and full of traditions. There are very good offers there, especially for those who crave brand clothes, there is no wish left unfulfilled here. The sooner you get there, the better. Unfortunately, many have this plan, so it was that day, because by 10 o ‘clock the door was opened, there were already queues there waiting for the entrance. One noticed that it got fuller and fuller in the afternoon. I got good deals from Kurt Geiger London and shopped shoes and a bag. The make-up department is also highly recommended. Here you will find all the brands with great offers. All in all, I highly recommend the Harrods for bargain shopping. With the Harrods Card you can save a few percent extra.

When it got too crowded we went opposite to the enchanting pink ELAN café. Of course, we had to queue again here as well. But it was worth it. We got a cozy place and ordered the finest tarts for coffee. Everything is so lovingly furnished and of course completely in pink, simply magical. The operation was very nice and we didn’t have to wait long. The tarts just heavenly delicious.

The cafe has a huge pink flower wall, walls coated in fabric, all kept in pink and gold, a pink horse in the entryway, balloons and and and … you feel like you’re in another world, a world full of pink cotton candy. Like in a Disney movie, I would say. Definitely worth a visit.

Day 3-Notting Hill and Peggys cupcakes

On the third day, I was planning a trip to Notting Hill. Now I’ve been to London so many times, but I never made it to Notting Hill. That should change now. We took the bus about 20min and were already there. On foot it was still about 10min towards Portobello market.

In Notting Hill is Portobello Road, with a well-known antiques market held every Saturday. Portland Road is considered a border region between rich and poor.

Along the way we met some crowds standing in front of the colorful houses typical of Notting Hill to take pictures. Towards the market it suddenly got fuller and fuller and we only made progress in mini-strides. This was, of course, also due to the antique market, which was very well frequented, as well as the countless tourists. We swipe out onto the side road and discovered a small biscuit shop “Biscuiteers .”

This one was so lovingly furnished that we absolutely had to get into it. Since I really wanted to take a can of biscuits with me, I decided for this one on the picture. I paid around 30 euros for the can. Already really much but I just couldn’t resist. The purchase paid off, the pastry is really very tasty and every biscuit so perfectly baked and hand-painted. Only recommended, even as a souvenir for a special person.
Since it became too crowded for us, we decide to drive back. We shot some photos with the sparing colorful apartment buildings, of course, but see for yourself ..
I also got a particularly creative picture, even if it wasn’t easy;)
On the way back and towards a cupcake shop I selected, we saw from the bus a house that was decorated so wonderfully Christmas that we got straight out.

The Annabell’s is (as we found out in hindsight) a London nightclub. Dubbed the “symbol of decadence ,” the facility was the first London nightclub. Annabel’s is considered “preferred nightclub of the aristocracy .” Very impressive from the outside and certainly just as beautiful from the inside. However, the insight was kept to us, as it is only open to club members.
After a short photo session we drove to the cupcake shop “Peggy Porschen ”
The shop is a bit secluded and inconspicuous in a residential area. Nevertheless, the small cupcake shop is already noticeable from afar, because it is completely pink and therefore not to be overlooked. We had to queue again here. It went pretty fast again anyway and we were in it. It was very small but cozy. There wasn’t a lot of space and it was relatively tight. Unfortunately, we had to wait a long time for our two coffees and cupcakes. But it was delicious nonetheless and worth a photo.
The service was very polite and ended guilt several times for it that it took so long. The cupcakes were very small converted for about 6 euros, but really very tasty and rich;) Definitely worth a visit if you’re nearby and fancy sweet treats.

Day 4-The breakfast Club

There wasn’t much left for Day 4 and our last day in London. But we didn’t want to miss a good and rich breakfast. So it went to “The Breakfast Club ,” 10min walk from our hotel. Standing with queue, of course. It took on normality so slowly that you had to queue everywhere. The breakfast shop is very inconspicuous, except for the yellow color of course;)

This time, however, we had to wait longer than the times before. After about 45min we were finally in and already starving. We ordered pancakes with egg and bacon and two coffees. The food came quickly and it was incredibly delicious. The music was great, rock and old classics were played. The staff very nice and relaxed and the atmosphere very cozy.

Actually, I had planned a visit to Tower Bridge. However, this was from our hotel from about 1h, so we decided to take a quiet approach to the last day. So we went to have another bite to eat and then drove towards the airport.

Conclusion
If you only come to London for shopping, you’ve come to the right place. The Boxing Day sale is always worth it. I would recommend coming up with the necessary small money and possibly saving something beforehand if you plan to buy only big brands. Definitely visit the Harrods and it’s best to start the day as early as possible. In the afternoons it gets very crowded everywhere. Order the Harrods Card online in advance and secure extra discounts. There are all the brands imaginable on Oxford Street. Especially good shoes you get in London. So if you’re looking for really great leather shoes, you’re sure to find what they’re looking for here. I’ve been to London many times now too to the Boxing Day sale and it’s always paid off. Also, I love the city and the people. I like to come here and I think I will continue to do so in 2019:)
